Give Claude Code a voice

Claude Code works in a terminal, and a terminal only tells you things while you are looking at it. A voice does not have that limitation.

What a voice actually changes

The useful thing about an agent is that it works while you do something else. The awkward thing is that it then needs you back, and has no way to say so. You find out by looking, which means you keep looking, which undoes the point.

Cyan Voice closes that loop. When a session finishes, it reads the result out. When one is blocked on a permission prompt, it asks you. When you want to say something back, the microphone is already open.

How it connects to Claude Code

Claude Code can tell other programs when things happen. Cyan Voice registers for those events, so it knows when a session finished a task, when one is waiting on a permission decision, and what each one is working on. Your answer goes back the same way.

It is not a replacement for Claude Code and it does not need an Anthropic API key. It drives the Claude Code already installed and signed in on your Mac, with your own Claude account, and never sees your credentials.

What you hear

• Finished work. Start something long, walk away, and hear how it went: passed, failed, or waiting on you.
• Permission requests. "Bash wants to run rm -rf build. Allow it?" You answer out loud, and it passes your answer on. It never decides anything itself.
• A morning briefing. The first time you are at your Mac each day, what happened across your projects yesterday.

Where the words go

Nowhere, by default. Speech recognition and speech synthesis both run on your Mac. Cloud voices from Groq, OpenAI, Fish Audio and ElevenLabs are optional, off until you turn one on, and each needs an API key you supply. Turning one on means the text being spoken, or the audio being transcribed, goes to that provider.

Common questions

Do I need an Anthropic API key?

No. Cyan Voice uses the Claude Code on your Mac, signed in to your own Claude account. There is nothing extra to pay for.

Does it work with other coding agents?

Not yet. It is built around Claude Code's hooks, which is what lets it know what a session is doing rather than guessing from a terminal.

Is my code sent anywhere?

Not by default. Speaking and listening both happen on your Mac unless you configure a cloud provider with your own key.

What does it cost?

$14.99 once, for two Macs. There is no subscription.
